The Origin of “Migas“
Various theories suggest that migas were introduced to the Iberian Peninsula during the Arab invasion and that their origin is related to the esteemed Muslim dish, tharid. According to tradition, this was the favorite dish of Muhammad. Far from being a popular recipe, it was a great gift for distinguished guests visiting palaces and high-ranking households.
Later, during the Reconquista, “migas” remained popular among Christian kings. However, they added pork products to distinguish themselves from Muslim beliefs.
