Reyes Católicos Street
Calle Reyes Católicos, located between Puerta Real and Plaza Nueva, is a tribute to the influential monarchs of Castile and Aragon, Isabella I and Ferdinand II, who completed the Reconquista with the capture of Granada. Isabella and Ferdinand deeply loved this city and enriched it with monuments. They were so devoted to Granada that they decided their remains should rest here, commissioning the construction of the Royal Chapel, where they lie alongside other members of the royal family.
Their legacy in Granada is impressive. They founded the Royal Hospital, which now houses the rectorate of the University of Granada. Additionally, they chose Granada as the seat of the Royal Chancery, which governs legal matters for the southern half of Spain. In 1505, they marked the city with monuments and traces that tell the story of their reign and personality in every corner.
